The Skelton 4-H Conference Center
Our retreat will be held at one of the nation’s premier 4-H centers; the W. E. Skelton 4-H Educational Conference Center at Smith Mountain Lake.
Started in 1964 with a land donation from Appalachian Power, the center has grown from a single pole barn building to a campus of 30 buildings on 120 acres.
The beautiful lakefront property provides us with spacious and modern meeting facilities, as well as on-site catering and hotel style lodging.
Accommodations
The rooms in the Reid Jones Jr. Lodge have two twin beds, one full bed, and one trundle bed. This means you can have up to 5 people sharing your room, but we expect there to be only two people per room.
The lodge is fully air-conditioned and the rooms have individual heating and air units, as well as a private bathroom in each room. Your room will have linens, pillows and blankets as well as an ice bucket with tray and plastic tumblers, a clock radio, and limited housekeeping service.
The lodge also provides:
- Television connected to dish satellite and courtesy phone in common lobby area
- Limited Wireless internet available
- Gas fireplace in common lobby area
- Ice machine and drink machine on lower level
- Two bellman carts
Dining Facilities
Our meals will be in the Smith Central Activities Building, which is directly across the street from the lodge.
All meals will be served “camp style,” which means that you will be expected to clear your table after each meal, and we will be served using the same cups, utensils, and paper napkins that the summer camps use.
The wonderful kitchen staff will offer us amazing menus built around the diverse needs and tastes of our group.
